the way they lookModern British ladies tend to spend more attention and money for their looks but not for their health, the scientists say. According to the results of a new study recently published in British mass media, an average woman in the UK spends more money for make-up, hair care and other various cosmetic products (annual amount is estimated as ?336) than for vitamin supplements, a sport club membership or other health care procedures (annual amount is about ?228).

healthThis information was received during an analytic study which involved about 3000 female participants aged between 18 and 65. They were interviewed about their daily choices with particular attention to their preferences and tendencies as to making a decision between buying the products for health and for improving their own image. Six of ten female participants of the study declared that they prefer living a joyful life filled with beauty and fun than worrying about their health, getting focused on various diets and avoiding having extra weight.

At that, about 19% of the participants said that they consider crash diets an effective tool to lose weight, and about 20% of the participants said that they would prefer laxatives. 14% of the ladies involved in the research revealed that they would prefer using special diet pills, and about 3% of the women were sure that smoking tobacco can also be used as a great technique for weight loss. More to that, eight of ten women are ready to continue following their various bad habits in case if they receive a compliment for those. 50% of the ladies displayed their wish to do what it takes in order to fit again to a size 8 jeans.

It would be wrong to say that these results come as a surprise, as so many of us are guilty of taking shortcuts to ensure we look good often at the expense of our health,” says a spokesman for Benenden Healthcare Society, which was the main organization behind this research. Specialists see a huge danger in this tendency of today’s women to take care more about the way they look than the way to be healthy. “Women become obsessed with the latest beauty trends and maintaining a perfect look, but in the end its just a mirage and theyre not caring enough for whats going on inside their bodies,” the Benenden Healthcare Society spokesman says.

One Response to “British Women Spend More On Their Beauty Than Their Health”

Readers in the US please note, mind you, that the National Health Service in Britain means that Brits do not have to pay for health care; we get excellent first-rate medical treatment and health advice for free.
Additionally, vitamin supplements are arguably no good for health and have even been linked to health problems – I support the claim that it is better to get such nutrients from the foods which they naturally occur in.
Finally, at some universities you can get free gym membership, and besides, many would argue that it is better to exercise in the fresh country air than in a gym anyway. This doesn’t cost money — and so leaves us plenty of pennies spare to spend on beauty products.
So, maybe on average British women do spend more money on beauty than health — but surely this only asserts that British society and government favours health over beauty, thus women ARE IN THE POSITION to spend more money taking care of their beauty, because society already provides them with top-rate health care services.
Just reckoned that this fundamental point really needed to be highlighted.
